Measurement of the Proton Structure Function F2 at low Q2 in QED Compton Scattering at HERA
نویسندگان
چکیده
The proton structure function F2(x, Q2) is measured in inelastic QED Compton scattering using data collected with the H1 detector at HERA. QED Compton events are used to access the kinematic range of very low virtualities of the exchanged photon, Q2, down to 0.5 GeV2, and Bjorken x up to ∼0.06, a region which has not been covered previously by inclusive measurements at HERA. The results are in agreement with the measurements from fixed target lepton-nucleon scattering experiments. Submitted to Physics Letters B A. Aktas10, V. Andreev26, T. Anthonis4, A. Asmone33, A. On the Investigation of the Proton Structure Using QED Compton Events in ep Scattering
QED Compton scattering at HERA is discussed in terms of the information it may reveal on the proton structure at low momentum transfers Q. Detailed Monte Carlo studies are performed which show that the analysis of inelastic QED Compton events allows the extension of present HERA structure function measurements to a kinematic regime, which up to now was only accessed in fixed target data. For th...
متن کاملStructure Function Measurement at HERA
Preliminary results1 on a measurement of the proton structure function F2(x,Q 2) are reported for momentum transfers squared Q2 between 1.5 GeV2 and 5000 GeV2 and for Bjorken x between 5 · 10−5 and 0.32, using data collected by the HERA experiments H1 and ZEUS in 1994. F2 increases significantly with decreasing x, even in the lowest reachable Q2 region. The data are well described by a Next to ...
متن کاملA Measurement of the QED Compton Cross Section in Electron-Proton Scattering with the H1 Experiment at HERA Dissertation
A measurement of the double differential leptonic QED Compton cross-section in positron-proton collisions is described. The kinematic range extends in xl from 1.8·10−5 to 1.78·10−3 and in Ql from 1.5 GeV2 to 85 GeV2. The data were accumulated with the H1 detector at the HERA storage ring in 1997, of which about 9.18 pb−1 of the integrated luminosity in that year were included in this analysis. ...
متن کاملMeasurement of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering at HERA
In this thesis the results of the first measurement of Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering in electron–proton collisions at HERA are presented. The analysed data were taken with the H1 detector during the 1997 data taking period corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8 pb−1. The differential cross sections dσ dQ2 and dσ dW of the reaction ep → eγp have been measured in the kinematic domain ...
متن کاملLeading neutron production in ep collisions at HERA
The production of neutrons carrying at least 20% of the proton beam energy (xL > 0.2) in e+p collisions has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA for a wide range of Q2, the photon virtuality, from photoproduction to deep inelastic scattering. The neutron-tagged cross section, ep → eXn, is measured relative to the inclusive cross section, ep → eX, thereby reducing the systematic uncertain...
متن کاملMEASUREMENT AND QCD-ANALYSIS OF THE PROTON STRUCTURE FUNCTION F2(x;Q2) AT HERA
New results on measurements of the proton structure function F 2 (x;Q 2) from H1 and ZEUS at HERA are presented. The data were collected in 1995 and 1996 covering the range 0:16 Q 2 90 GeV 2 and reaching values of x down to 210 ?6. Contrary to observations at values of Q 2 10 GeV 2 , the rise in F 2 with decreasing x is found to be weaker at low Q 2. Conventional NLO QCD evolution equations pro...
